Overview
The Sim La Trek is one of the most challenging and remote high-altitude trekking adventures in the Karakoram, taking experienced trekkers deep into the isolated wilderness of Baltistan. The journey passes through rugged mountain valleys, vast glaciers, alpine camps and dramatic high-altitude terrain before reaching the spectacular Sim La Pass at approximately 5,390m. The route begins from the Braldu Valley and gradually moves deeper into the Panmah and Choktoi glacier systems, passing through remote camps and untouched mountain landscapes. One of the major highlights of the trek is crossing Skam La before continuing towards the Sim Gang Glacier and eventually reaching the Sim La High Camp. The crossing of Sim La Pass is the defining challenge of the journey, requiring strong physical fitness, previous high-altitude experience and the ability to travel safely across demanding glacial terrain. After crossing the pass, the route continues towards Sim La Base Camp and Latok Base Camp before descending through remote valleys towards Jhola and returning to Skardu. With extensive glacier travel, high mountain passes, remote wilderness, dramatic Karakoram scenery and very limited access to settlements, the Sim La Trek offers an extraordinary adventure for experienced trekkers seeking one of the most isolated routes in northern Pakistan.
