K2 Expedition

Overview

The K2 Expedition is an extraordinary high-altitude mountaineering journey to the summit of K2, the second-highest mountain in the world at 8,611m. The expedition begins in Islamabad before continuing to Skardu and the remote village of Askole, the traditional gateway to the great Karakoram mountains. From Askole, the route follows the spectacular Baltoro Glacier through rugged mountain terrain, passing iconic landscapes and reaching Concordia, one of the most remarkable mountain viewpoints in the region. From Concordia, the expedition continues towards the Godwin-Austen Glacier and K2 Base Camp at approximately 5,000m. Here, climbers begin an extended period of acclimatisation and high-altitude climbing, gradually establishing higher camps at approximately 6,000m, 6,700m, 7,400m and 8,000m. The climbing phase allows the team to adapt to extreme altitude, prepare the route and wait for a suitable weather window for the summit attempt. The final ascent involves challenging technical terrain, extreme altitude, cold temperatures and unpredictable mountain conditions before reaching the summit at 8,611m. After completing the climbing programme, the team retraces the Baltoro route back to Askole before returning to Skardu and Islamabad. With a combination of remote trekking, glacier travel, technical climbing and prolonged high-altitude acclimatisation, the K2 Expedition is designed for experienced mountaineers seeking one of the world's most demanding and iconic climbing adventures.
